Calvary Chapel Newport News exists to teach the Good News of Jesus Christ to the lost and to the found. We accomplish this by Reaching Up in prayer and worship, by Reaching In through spiritual growth, by Reaching Around in small groups, and by Reaching Out through missions, evangelism, and community service.

Calvary Connections

A Movement Begins

The roots of Calvary Chapel, a non-denominational Christian church, date back to 1965, when Pastor Chuck Smith founded the church in Costa Mesa, California. Through the leading of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Chuck and the Calvary Chapel movement were instrumental in millions of conversions to the Christian faith around the world.

A Call to Newport News

Miles away from Costa Mesa, a young pastor and Marine named Tony Clark served as a staff pastor at Calvary Chapel Vista in California. During this time, Pastor Tony answered God’s call to relocate to Newport News, Virginia, to plant a new church.

The Birth of CCNN

In September 1994, Pastor Tony, his wife Jenise, and their three children—Erin, Tony Jr., and Eric—moved from California to Virginia. Calvary Chapel Newport News officially launched in October 1994 in the gymnasium of Greenwood Elementary School.

Faithful Growth & Lasting Impact

Over the years, God has blessed the faithful, verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter, and book-by-book teaching of His Word. What began as a small Bible study has grown into a thriving church community of more than 2,500 people, serving Newport News and our neighboring communities
